The Declaration of independence
In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania five congress men Thomas Jefferson, Robert livingston, Roger Sherman, Benjamin Franklin and John Adams got together to begin writing The Declaration of independence that would soon lead to The freedom of America from Great Britain.
The Declaration Of Independence was split into three parts the preamble, The declaration of natural rights and the list of grievances
The Preamble
"When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."These are some of the words that were written to declare that American wanted a separation from Britain.
The declaration of natural right
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
This paragraph discloses that the power of government come from the people, and that every citizen is born with certain right.
"Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government"
The list of grievances
The list of grievances is a list of complaints that the colonist had against king George the third
Here are some of his more absurd one:
- He has refused to enforce laws.
- He has forbidden certain laws from being passed.
- He has made it hard for colonist to fully be in government.
- He has limited American expansion into new territories.
- He has forced colonist to house British troops.
- He has allowed British troops to go unpunished for their crimes.
- He has cut off trade to the colonies.
- He has taxes colonist unfairly
- He refused to protect colonist from attacks
And finally on July 4th,1776 the declaration of independence was adopted by the second continental congress and a new nation was born.
